The San Diego Comic Con is the biggest comic convention in the U.S. It began in 1970 when a group of comics, movie, and science fiction fans banded together to put on the first comic book convention in southern California. Originally called San Diego’s Golden State Comic-Minicon, it was a one day “Minicon” event. Today, this gigantic convention has become an entertainment red-carpet event because of appearances by movie stars and A-list celebrities. With attendance topping 130,000 in recent years, you better make sure you order your tickets ahead of the event. Being geeky is cool and now mainstream.
